Police in Hoima have put behind cells one of their colleagues for aiding the escape of a 70year old man accused of aggravated defilement.

Augustus Turyatunga, the officer in- charge of Kigorobya Police Station in Hoima district was intercepted for reportedly releasing Keya Kafeero who was under police custody for allegedly defiling his 5-year-old granddaughter.

It is alleged that Turyatunga together with other officers under his command made it possible for the 70-year-old to flee and he is still at large.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that Kafeero escaped from Kigorobya Health Center IV on Tuesday Night where he had been admitted nursing severe wounds that he sustained after being beaten by a mob.

Hakiza says that the OC Station and his juniors tasked with keeping watch of the suspect will all be charged with negligence of duty and Aiding escape of suspect once police investigations are through.
