The government has said that they are waiting for another swarm of locusts from the neighboring Kenya to hit Uganda before spraying them on the ground.
According to the State Minister for Animal Husbandry Bright Rwamirama, the yellow locusts that are seen roaming in the seven northeastern districts of the country are mature but not destructive because they are laying eggs and will eventually die afterward.
He says the government is prepared to spray the locusts, although the current locusts could just be the beginning of a bigger problem.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, Rwamirama said that information from their scientists suggests that these locusts are laying the last of three phases of eggs, therefore killing them with their eggs is a better way of reducing the risk of multiplication.
He said the government needs to map out areas where they have landed so that they are sprayed and killed.
Rwamirama says that Uganda Peoples Defense Forces -UPDF and the Local Defense Units -LDUs have been trained in spraying although they are not actively spraying.
Swarms of desert locusts since invaded seven districts in the country including Abim, Katakwi, Kotido, Agago, Kitgum, Otuke among other districts.
