A businessman in Kabale district has on Friday been arrested for alleged torture of an intern student.

Emmanuel Niwagaba, the proprietor of Masters Auto Garage, Kabale municipality reportedly tortured Abel Ariheihi 19yrs a resident of Nyamabare village, Karubeizi parish in Kanungu district after accusing him of theft.

Ariheihi who was studying at Niwagaba’s garage was accused of stealing spanners.

Ariheihi narrates that last week, Niwagaba tied him up using an electric cable before using an electric cable to hit him hard while forcing him to confess to stealing the spanners

Hope Byakatonda, a mother to the victim says that her son is now unable to walk properly as a result of the deep wounds he sustained on his buttocks, thighs, and back during the torture.

Brian Ampeire, the Kabale District Police Commander, says that Niwagaba is being held because he caused grievous harm on Ariheihi.

He says that the victim is receiving treatment at Kabale regional referral hospital as police continue with investigations a case of alleged theft Niwagaba had lodged against Ariheihi and torture of the victim.
