The Ministry of Education has requested parliament to be given until Thursday, 20 February 2020 to present a statement on the new lower secondary school curriculum.
The Minister of State for Primary Education, Hon Rosemary Sseninde who represented Education Minister Janet Museveni asked parliament that the presentation pushed to give time for the preparation of a comprehensive report that will look into all issues raised by the MPs.
Despite a parliamentary resolution to halt its implementation, the Education Ministry decided to proceed with it and was supposed to present a statement on the roll-out of the lower secondary school curriculum.
On 04 February 2020 parliament suspended its review and roll out saying it was being rushed and needed nationwide consultation from all stakeholders.
Parliament also halted the plan to roll out the curriculum giving the Ministry of Education a week to present the statement.
However, this statement did not go down well with the MPs who demanded that the minister responds immediately considering its a matter of urgency.
The Kira Municipality Mp, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda was bitter and asked that the minister follows parliaments rules of procedure as directed by parliament. He noted that the Speaker had directed the ministry officials to come back on Tuesday with a response that was not being honored.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga said that no extension time will be given to the Education ministry after Thursday.
