Horror as a blazing fire on Sunday night gutted two business-oriented buildings on Herbert street, in Masaka Municipality destroying property worth millions of shillings.
No one was injured in the incident.
The Police Fire Unit arrived shortly at the scene and put out the fire after someone alerted them.
Jude Mbabaali, the Masaka District chairperson said the fire was reported late after all the traders and shop operators had exited the affected buildings.
He said that while parts of the buildings have been damaged by the fire, the swift response of the Police Fire Unit and district staff with the District Water Bowser contributed to the swift extinguishing of the fire.
“We commend the Police Fire Unit at Masaka and our staff and thank them for the timely and invaluable service they have rendered,” he added.
