Residents of Kawempe division in Kampala are still in shock after a father beat his daughter to death on Tuesday night.

Helena Nambalirwa, a primary two pupil at Elea Primary School in Kawempe, died in hospital after succumbing to injuries inflicted on her by her father’s hand.

Alex Ssebuliba a bricklayer and resident of jinja Kaloli, in kawempe reportedly returned home from work on Tuesday evening only to realize his seven-year-old girl had not yet done her homework, as if that was not enough Nambalirwa attempted to do it she still failed, and this angered her father even more.

The ruthless father decided to pick up clubs and batter the seven-year-old critically injuring her.

The child who was uncontrollably crying and screaming attracted the attention of neighbors and nearby residents who rushed to separate an already brutally injured girl from the ruthless hands of the dad before rushing her to Mulago hospital to get treated.

Police mouthpiece Patrick Onyango says the family and child protection unit of Kawempe police station were informed and had Ssebuliba locked up.

Onyango says the child was pronounced dead from Mulago hospital where she had gone to nurse her injuries on Wednesday morning.

He says Sebulima told police officers that he never intended to kill his child but punish her for not doing her homework early.

A regretful Ssebuliba yelled during interrogation and begged for forgiveness and a chance to have one last look at his girl a little too late.
Onyango cautioned parents against punishing their children to the extent of badly injuring or killing them. He says the Ssebuliba will be charged with murder.
