Three UPDF soldiers attached to an army detachment in Zombo town council have been killed in a sudden ambush by a fierce gang of machete-wielding thugs that raided them on Friday morning.

UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire who described the aggressive encounter as suicidal says the criminal gang of mostly youth stormed the barracks armed with machetes, bows, and arrows instigating a fight.

Karemire notes that during a heated physical exchange many were injured with some deaths reported. Among those dead are 3 soldiers.

He says once the assailants realized they were losing the battle,they fled the scene and art now at large.

Karemeire says the motive of the attack has not been established although investigations have commenced and security forces will work round the clock together with the locals to apprehend the criminals.
