The shameless 24-year old woman caught red-handed swindling money from Watoto church -Ntinda by exchanging offertory bags has been sentenced to a fine of Shillings 250,000 failure of which she will face 5 months jail term.
While appearing before the magistrates’ court, Grade One Magistrate Valerian Tuhimbise noted that stealing church offertory from was regrettable, because the church is a place of repentance, yet she was there to engage in a sinful act.
On March 1, 2020, while attending the first service, Judith Nanangwe reportedly exchanged the bag containing church offertory amounting to shillings 643.000 with a duplicate that was empty.
However, she was noticed by a keen church member who alerted the church authorities that later had her arrested.
After being nabbed, Nanangwe confessed to swindling offertory money from various churches in a similar pattern to meet the needs of her children that were abandoned by their father.
Nanangwe, who has been serving miserable jail time together with her one-month-old baby at Luzira prison, pleaded guilty to theft on her own plea before the City Hall Court in Kampala.
The trial Magistrate observed that Nanangwe has a child, implying that he had consider the best interest of the child and the State.
On the basis of having an infant, she sentenced her to pay a fine of 250,000 Shillings, failure of which, she would be jailed for five months. He added that the convict deserves rehabilitation and not punishment.
He said that the convict is a first time offender who pleaded guilty without wasting the court’s time.
