A Chinese national who just arrived from China has stirred panic in Arua town after he on Wednesday checked into a hotel to reportedly self-quarantine.
The Chinese national had traveled on leave and works with Chinese International Construction Company-CICO.
He presented no signs of the virus upon arrival at Entebbe International airport when he called the company driver to pick him.
However, while at his Euata office, his panicking colleagues kept running away from him , leading to numerous office stampedes and pushing him to isolate himself for fear that he was carrying the virus and ready to spread it.
The friendless Chinese was forced to look for a hotel in Arua town where he innocently checked in to a self-contained room without the hotel workers suspecting a thing.
Later, one by one the workers began to realize a Chinese man was in the hotel keeping to himself and this prompted the workers to alert security, who in turn alerted the District Health Officer =DHO to assess the situation.
Dr. Paul Bishop Drileba, the Arua DHO identified a team of health officers who recommended that the Chinese national stay isolated in his room for 14 days, with monitoring.
He says in the wake of the covid 19 reality, they are working with the ministry of health to establish six screening points at Arua airfield, Odramacaku, Lia, Vurra plus two other points at Kampala market on the border of Uganda with DRC at Logiri.
Meanwhile, at Arua Airport where passengers from South Sudan, Kenya, Central African Republic, China America, among others arrive, a team of health personnel is already deployed to screen all passengers for symptoms of COVID-19.
