A joint task force team of Security agencies investigating the alleged treason charges against former security minister, Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, has revealed that investigations are nearing completion.

The agencies include Special Forces Command –SFC, Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force-JATT, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the task team has gathered facts in Tumukunde’s treason case and has sent it to the Directorate of Public Prosecution –DPP for perusal and legal advice.

Meanwhile, the files of 13 others,9 males and4 females who were arrested for obstruction of officers on duty have also been sanctioned to the office of the DPP.

Enanga, while updating journalists on the Tumukunde case noted that the investigative work of the team was disrupted due to his hospitalization at Nakasero hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

 

On Thursday evening the general was picked up by security agency officials from his office in Kololo under the command of AIGP Grace Akullo and jailed at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) headquarters in Kireka.

On Friday morning, security forces in a joint statement indicated that Tumukunde ‘s premises in Kololo were being searched for material evidence pinning him to the crime of treason. They recovered over 20 army uniforms and two guns.

Enanga explained that security agencies put the infamous handcuffs on General Tumukunde putting into consideration his military background and also because he acted violently during his arrest on Thursday when he pushed down a senior police officer.

Tumukunde is currently hospitalized at Nakasero hospital where he was taken to on Sunday morning after, his leg swell and health deteriorated rendering him unconscious while being held at the Special Investigations Division –SID at Kireka on treason charges.

He is accused of calling upon a neighboring country notably Rwanda to support him in removing the current leadership with or without the ballot.
