Traffic jam marred the streets of Kampala on Friday as parents rush to schools to pick their children, heeding to a directive given one day ago by the head of state to have all schools closed by midday.

In some parts of Kampala, uniform colors littered the streets with students struggling to bundle their heavy metallic boxes onto taxis amidst coronavirus fears and measures being enforced all over.

The directive comes when the school term has about six weeks to close.

On Wednesday the President ordered for the closure of all academic and tertiary institutions across the country including all schools, Colleges, Universities by midday on Friday as a preventive measure against COVID 19.

Museveni said it was necessary to close schools to avoid concentration in the face of danger as they are high-risk environments for the spread of the virus.

Shortly after the pronouncement, a video of Makerere university students jubilating went viral, this, however, doesn’t speak for the other thousands in the same position.

Some students that spoke to the Galaxy website acknowledged the need for measures to be taken but also expressed disappointment with this one saying they are going to miss out on so much and it will be harder to catch up.

Some parents expressed mixed reactions with some buying the idea while others say it would have been wiser for children to stay in school because they are better corrected

The parents also wonder what will next to education since so many questions are left unanswered.
