95 travelers aboard two Jaguar buses from Rwanda to Uganda have been quarantined at Kirigime Guesthouse in Kabale district on Sunday evening after being detained at the No Mans land with no Isolation center.
Ministry of health and security officials haven’t designated isolation center at No Mans Land but after negotiations with the ministry, the group was taken to Kirigime Guest House.
Patrick Besigye Keihwa, the Kabale district LC 5 Chairperson, says government agreed to meet the costs of quarantining the travelers at Kirigime guest house following long hours of negotiations.
Alfred Besigensi, the Kabale District Health Officer, says health and security officials will keep watch of the guest house while monitoring the health condition of the passengers as well as prevent them from escaping.
President Museveni on Saturday ordered the closure of all borders, all incoming passengers whether by air, water or road from midnight Sunday shortly before Uganda reported its first coronavirus case.
The ban allows drivers of cargo and their turn boys to come into the country under certain conditions. The Entebbe International Airport has also banned international passenger flights.
On Saturday, Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng announced the first Covid-19 case of a 36-year-old Ugandan national who arrived from Dubai was isolated at Entebbe Grade B Hospital.
President Museveni has also advised the public to minimize the use of public transport to curb the spread of COVID 19.
The Ministry of Health is yet to release information about the results of the tests taken from the other passengers who traveled with the victim.
