Senior police officers have apologized to Lowenah Nankya, a senior six student of Lugazi Mixed School, who was on March 11, 2020,  shot in the mouth in a rowdy operation against street vendors.

This was during a visit led by AIGP Asan Kasingye and Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Sorowen among others on Monday, March 23, 2020, together with her mother. Kasingye apologized to the family over the shooting.

The visit involved a meeting that was held behind closed doors with no details divulged to the media.

The operation that happened 2 weeks back saw KCCA law enforcement officers fire stray rubber bullets in the air to disperse defiant vendors but in the process injured the girl that was on her way to school in the company of her mother who also sustained minor injuries.

As a result, the innocent teenager lost 7 teeth sustained a split jaw and damaged nerves after the stray bullets pierced through her sensitive skin wounds.

The police officers, also included visited the family at their home in Masajja, Makindye Division, Kampala.

The officers are expected to brief the Inspector General of Police-IGP on the status of the family welfare and health condition.

The family lawyer, Allan Mulindwa, says they have written to Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola and KCCA ED, Engineer Andrew Kitaka to compensate the two victims for permanent damage to the tune of Shillings 1 billion.

The Police leadership has since suspended four Police Constables attached to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) who were involved in the March 11 operation against street vendors.
