Police in Iganga district is looking for the father to the 8 months old baby that tested positive for COVID-19.
Ivan Kavuma, a resident of Nkono village in Iganga municipality, the father to the eight months old baby is suspected to have traveled to Kisumu in Kenya last week.
It is widely suspected that he infected the baby upon return and his absence poses a great risk to not only his family but also the public in general.
His relatives said he vanished on Wednesday together with his immediate family that includes a house help and his two daughters after realizing he was needed by the Ministry of Health officials for COVID-19 tests and isolation.
The ministry of health on Wednesday afternoon reported that the 8 months old baby was brought to the Iganga hospital by the father after presenting with flu and difficulty breathing.
Kavuma’s wife who is undergoing self-quarantine but tested negative says that she tried to convince her husband in vain to get a check-up after she suffered a persistent cough upon his return.
James Mubi, the Busoga East police spokesperson says that detectives have conducted background checks with Kavuma’s distant relatives and friends, but all of them denied having contact with him.
According to the Health Ministry, anyone who helps another person to escape from quarantine during this era of coronavirus faces two months in prison.
