President Yoweri Museveni will tonight at 8 pm deliver a televised nationwide address that is expected to see another wave of drastic changes across the country.
The last time the president addressed the nation he directed that all public travels and sale of non-food items in the markets be banned for a period of two weeks in a bid to slow down the rapid spread of COVID-19.
This has since taken a huge toll on the business community and Ugandans at large who mostly survive from hand to mouth, with many trekking long distances to their areas of work for survival while others being forced to stay home desperately awaiting a lift on the ban.
There have also been incidents of traders being harshly thrown out of their shops and walloped by security operatives in Kampala despite the trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde advising against it.
The President has since the time COVID-19 spread through Uganda banned for 32 days all public gatherings including Institutions of learning, all places of worship, political and traditional meetings, mass weddings and burials, social events and concerts all bars and Discos.
President Museveni on Saturday said there might be a need for more drastic measures to curb the spread.
“We may have to take additional drastic measures. I will keep you informed,” the president wrote.
The Senior presidential press secretary, Don Wanyama wrote on his Facebook page that on Monday that the President would again address the nation at 8 p.m on COVID -19 pandemic.
He said the broadcast will run across all TV stations and radio.
Uganda on Sunday, March 29 registered three new cases of the coronavirus including a 15-year-old boy bringing the number to 33 patients.
