With just 4 days into the lockdown, a section of Ugandans in the have expressed fear that the government may extend the lockdown from 14 weeks to a month leaving many Ugandans in oblivion.

Most of the traders selling fresh food at the markets fear that their products may go bad as Ugandans go broke and as demand for their products declines.

Some people in the public have indicated tough times ahead with no food and accumulating debt that they will have to deal with should we survive the COVID -19.

They claim with cases progressively increasing in the country, the president might be forced to add more days as Rwanda has done.

The Ministry of Health on Thursday registered one new case of COVID-19 bringing the number of confirmed cases to 45.

The latest case was of a 22-year-old female, a resident of Nkokonjeru, Wakiso District and wife to a previously confirmed case who arrived from Dubai on March 20, 2020.

Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General of Health Services says that the lady had previously not shown any symptoms of the disease.

While updating the nation on the COVID -19 pandemic on Thursday afternoon, the Minister of Health Dr.Ruth Acheng  said Uganda will have 18,877 cases at a rate of 3 percent rate of fatality by April of the COVID -19 if the current lockdown is not adhered to

”This is what it would have looked like, 18,878 cases would have been confirmed at a 3% fatality rate, 566 people would be dead by April 31st, 2020. Something had to be done immediately”

”The purpose of the lockdown is to suppress the spread of COVID-19. This measure breaks the chain of transmission. Other countries have done this and managed the spread of the virus” Achieng said

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda in a statement on Thursday announced an extension of lockdown by 15 more days in an after the cases of COVID-19 increased to 85.

The decision to extend the current two-week lockdown initially declared on March 21 to contain the spread of the COVID-19 was reached during an extraordinary cabinet meeting held via video conference on Wednesday.
