The joint Security taskforce has warned that it will discipline members of the public found walking in the city center aimlessly.

The security operatives have warned that it reckless movements that fuel the spread of the pandemic.

Of recent idle Ugandans have taken lightly measures in place to slow down the spread of COVID -19 with small crowds seen lazily flocking the streets of Kampala under no clear circumstance, some visiting trading centers for their daily gossip, jogging, mixing up with the few who are among the essential service providers.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said while speaking to the Media that its only people in the group of essential service providers that will be allowed to proceed to the city center and those walking with no particular reason in the city center will be held culpable.

Among the essential service providers are medical personnel, financial services, pharmacies, media.

“We have asked our officers to start interrogating those people walking to the city center. We are going to put them to the task to explain where they are going and those without genuine reasons will be punished,” Enanga said.

The government has banned all shops selling non- food items for a period of 14 days with the aim of stopping large numbers of people from moving to the city center to avert the spread of COVID-19.
