After a protracted battle between the people power and the government over food distribution to starving Ugandans, they have finally given into the government’s demand to give aid through the National Coronavirus Task Force.

Last week, People power defied the presidential directive and started distributing relief to hungry communities using motorcycles, following a statement they released on social media but it was stopped by the Government.

Among the items, they distributed included flour, beans, salt, and soap.

Now, the People Power Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, on Tuesday indicated that after an agreement with the Government it was resolved that the task force team would pick the remaining items from the People Power headquarters in Kamwokya.

Ssenyonyi posted on his social media that

” Since we’re unable to reach all parts of the country to extend help to those in need, we’ve written to the National Taskforce requesting them to collect some supplies we’ve put together. We requested them to come because we don’t have clearance to move, but if they clear us we shall deliver to their offices. We hope that more vulnerable people will be reached with the help they badly need in these trying times”.

Ssenyonyi also clarified that they will disclose the particulars of what they will donate and the quantity.

The Government currently is distributing relief food to 1.5 million vulnerable groups across Ugandan.

These include six kilograms of flour, three kilograms of beans, and salt, while pregnant mothers and the sick will get two kilograms of sugar and two kilograms of powdered milk.
