As the much-anticipated speech by President Yoweri Museveni on the way forward, following the end of a 14-day curfew and lockdown period , the public has been largely interrupted by a national nationwide power outage.

This has infuriated most  Ugandans who might miss out on the speech as a result of the power outage.

The President is on Tuesday afternoon expected to announce new measures on slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Senior Press Secretary Don Wanyama this afternoon took to his twitter to explain the cause of a national power outage.

the tweet reads;

About the current nearly countrywide load-shedding, it’s a technical problem at Owen Falls Dam caused by water-weeds affecting turbines. Engineers working to fix it. Let’s be patient.

Umeme also responded to the current  situation and apologized in a tweet for any inconveniences caused ;

 We are currently experiencing a NATIONAL OUTAGE and are working with

and all stakeholders to have power restored at the earliest. All inconveniences caused are regretted.

@uetclWe apologize for all inconveniences, mitigation measures were already being implemented when we lost generation but we are working with ministry of works to resolve the issue.

According to UEGCL, the national power distribution company, there is a floating island that is affecting generation at Bujagali power dam and Owen falls dam, Nalubaale and due to this, the electricity supply is not possible and the whole country is in a total blackout.
