The Joint Security Task Force Team-JTFT has introduced community liaison teams to deploy strategically within the Kampala Metropolitan area to help address the concern of reckless walking during these 21 days of lockdown.
Fred Enanga the police mouthpiece says these officers who will camp on the road at off curfew time will be responsible for engaging, educating and sensitizing pedestrians found walking on the streets to ascertain whether one is eligible to walk or not.
Enanga says walking is also a dangerous option because it poses a risk of transmitting infections and carrying the disease back to one’s home.
He says the task force has increased visibility in the Kampala metropolitan by deploying 300 more field force officers to be able to extensively handle notable spots like Saalama road, Kisenyi, and Masaka where incidents of taxi drivers still ferrying people have been reported.
Enanga has asked the public to observe the guidelines in place and to avoid reckless walks to ensure they don’t get into trouble with security operatives.
President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday afternoon extended the lockdown effective 15th of April to 5th of May 2020 to give room to health professionals to clear the infections, continue with follow up of travelers who entered Uganda in March and also allow the government to handle the situation longer.
