The Ministry of Agriculture has set up a committee to work with UNBS in evaluating the quality of food being donated to Locals in the CIVID-19 lockdown.
Addressing the media at the Office of the Prime Minister-OPM on Thursday Hon Bamulamgaki Sempijja the Minister of Agriculture indicated that the majority of people donating to the Task Force on COVID-19 pay less attention to quality.
”I have instituted a team of senior researchers who are going to examine the quality of all the food donated to the task force being distributed to people” Sempijja said.
The follows confirmation from the National taskforce on COVID-19 that the goodwill people donating food relief don’t care that it meets human consumption standards.
The National taskforce has been under fire from the public for distributing food , especially beans contaminated with foreign particles like stones, wood , glass, and weevils among others.
It all started with a picture of old contaminated beans said to be distributed during the start of the exercise in Bwaise that went viral on social media, attracting a lot of criticism.

And since then the complaints from beneficiaries only got louder with many people from Kawempe and Nakawa divisions complaining about the donated beans which were found to have stones and other foreign materials.
After various consultations, the National Taskforce owned up to its mistake, declaring the food unfit for human consumption
On Wednesday Betty Amongi Minister for Kampala confirmed that the government had terminated the contract with Aponye Ug ltd on substandard food.
Aponye Ug, owned Apollo Nyegamehe a tycoon based in Kabale was hand-picked and given a tender to supply food by fraudulent officials from OPM who have since been arrested.
They were busted in an operation carried out by the Anti-Corruption team and Criminal Investigations Division-CID.
