A helpless mother is stuck at Mulago National Referral Hospital with a lifeless body of her 3months old baby who died on Tuesday after being discharged three weeks ago.
A death certificate obtained from Mulago Hospital on Tuesday, April 21 indicates that the baby died from a heart defect coupled with severe pneumonia.
Jenifer Muhai, a resident of Nawuyo, Mbale District says she was forced to spend cold nights at the hospital even after being discharged because of the prevailing ban on public transport to slow the spread of COVID -19.
Muhai reportedly resorted to keeping her baby while attending to another friend who had been admitted a week earlier.
She now requires up to 600,000 Shillings to hire an ambulance to transport her and the body to Mbale before it is taken to the mortuary or buried in the city mortuary.
Muhai says that her husband is equally stranded in Kenya, where he had traveled before the lockdown was announced.
Over the last three weeks, Muhai has been surviving on handouts or sometimes walking around the hospital to wash clothes for those who need help.
