Proprietors at a murram excavation mining site in Iganga district are on the run after ditching the scene where an 11year- old -boy, they reportedly hired was buried in the murram while loading it onto a truck.

Police have launched a manhunt and investigations into the death of the deceased Peter Mugabi, a resident of Nakigo village in Nakigo Sub County in Iganga.

Mugabi reportedly met his ill fate on Thursday afternoon in the company of other casual laborers when he accidentally slide back and was swallowed by the murram in the process of loading it on the truck.

It is alleged that the proprietors who are infamous for hiring children to work on their site first reported the incident to the Local authorities before fleeing.

A police source who spoke anonymously says that insensitive parents often send children to the mining site to earn 3000 to 5000   Shillings daily.

David Ndaula the Iganga District Police Commander says the deceased’s body is lying at Iganga general hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
