Kampala Metropolitan Police has gunned down a suspected notorious gangster in Wakiso District.
Jamil Muwonge aka South Pole is reportedly a hardcore criminal that has been terrorizing locals in Kasangati was fired live bullets to his death on Wednesday in a police operation at Bulamu village, Kasaganti Town Council.
This happened as part of an ongoing police operation launched in March by the Kampala Metropolitan police commander, Moses Kafeero, to curb thugs, after they received dozens of complaints from pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson says the thug was killed after he attempted to attack a police officer who was mounting the operation.
“Muwonge was first shot in the leg as one way to disable him but he tried to attack one of the police officers and he was shot dead by another officer to save his colleague,” said Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson.
Onyango said Muwonge’s suspected accomplices fled in the process but security agencies are hunting for them.
Onyango said operations to get rid of criminals are still on-going and he called upon the public to cooperate.
