The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has warned to take stern action against health workers scheming to protest and lay down their tools over lack of personal protective Equipment – PPEs.

While visiting Masindi Hospital Quarantine center where a confirmed case of COVID -19 was registered, Acheng said her Ministry has received reports that some health workers were planning to lay down tools over lack of  COVID-19  treatment PPEs.

The Minister has asserted that any health workers who will act defiantly by going on a sit down strike are very unwise , unethical, and inhumane and those involved will be dealt with a hard blow.

She says the problem of health workers lacking PPEs is a global problem that cannot be blamed for the loss of lives of innocent patients.

The Minister who appreciated the health workers for a job well-done in being at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19, said much as they need them alive patients cannot die because the health workers have decided to protest over lack of protective gear.

Acheng promised that the government is working within its means to make available PPEs for health workers in the next two weeks but for now, any protest by health workers over lack of protective gear will not be accepted and tolerated by the government.

Aceng also warned that Uganda is not yet out of danger because of the porous borders that continue to facilitate more cases in the country.

Uganda has as of Thursday registered 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19,55 recoveries and 0 deaths.
