Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwiine has on Tuesday, May 12 surprised Journalists at the Uganda Media Center -UMC with a donation of  500 face masks.

The minister says he thought of this after detecting that the majority of Journalists turned up for pressers with bear faces despite a directive from the president to have all people in public places wearing masks.

He notes that the purpose of these masks is to shield journalists who are often in the field covering stories from the risk of contracting wi COVID-19,” he said.

He also cautioned against taking lightly the president’s directive on wearing masks.

“People should take President Museveni’s directive on wearing face masks seriously.

While addressing the nation on COVID-19 President Museveni proposed that wearing face masks be made mandatory for all persons in public in order to slow transmitting or contracting COVID-19.

Museveni explained that since the virus rides on the droplets its imperative that people get accustomed to using cloth masks that can be reused after washing and ironing.

“We are going to make it mandatory to cover the face with a cloth mask.. The mask may become a seedbed, of the virus,” Museveni said.
