In the wake of a rapid increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases registered in Uganda, the Ministry of Health has decided to address the nation on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 3 pm.
Uganda’s COVID-19 cases have grown to now to 139 by Wednesday 13th May 2020, following an announcement by the Ministry of health officials.
Among 2,104 samples tested and released from the Uganda Virus Research Institute yesterday, 13 truck drivers tested positive.
These include seven Ugandans, five Kenyans, and one Eritrean who arrived from Tanzania, South Sudan, and Kenya via Mutukula, Elegy, and Malaba entry points.
They are now being tracked.
Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Senior Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health says by 3 PM today the Health Minister Dr, Jane Ruth Aceng will be broadcast in a live televised on the National Broadcaster UBC.
Ainebyoona says Aceng will be in the company of a team of technocrats from the Ministry including members of the Scientific Advisory Committee.
Ainebyoona also encourages all TVs and Radio stations to pick live feed from UBC.

The number of infected truck drivers registered in Uganda stands at over 70 patients after over 10.000 tested samples, according to the health ministry.
Also over 2,000 contacts of all the other truck drivers who tested positive earlier have been followed up by the ministry of health.
Meanwhile, 5 Tanzanian Truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 have been discharged from Arua Regional Referral Hospital.
They include four drivers who were intercepted in Pakwach on April 24 and one who was intercepted at Vurra Customs on April 25.
The discharge officiated by the State Minister for Primary Health Care Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu alongside the World Health Organisation-WHO officials, Health ministry officials, and of COVID-19 task force officials.
Moriku said the discharged cured truck drivers shall remain at the treatment center until a communication is received from the Embassy of Tanzania to receive and pick them.
