The Joint Security Taskforce -JSTF has reported a sluggish attitude in the public on maintaining the presidential guidelines on COVID-19.
Fred Enanga, the police mouthpiece says over the weekend, 106 motor vehicles and 82 motorcycles were seized for either driving with no stickers or moving past curfew time in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Enanga who was on Monday morning speaking at the Uganda Media center -UMC says arrests were also made on small non-essential business operators who decided to work over the weekend like cosmetic shops, shopping malls, bars, saloons among others.
He said a number of churches have also started entertaining worshippers because the threat of the virus is the community is very low.
Enanga says much as the president is expected to review the lockdown on Tuesday the public is should continue observing social distancing, washing hands and wearing of facemasks
He advised the public to stay clear of the mindset that life is returning to normal because of no community infections and continue to follow the preventative guidelines put in place by the Health Ministry and the government.
Frank Baine, the spokesperson of the Uganda Prison Services, said visits to upcountry districts over the weekend found people operating business as usual.
Baine also said the Joint Security Taskforce has realized that some corrupt security officers have started taking bribes from those flouting the guidelines while driving at checkpoints.
President Museveni will address the country on Tuesday 19th May 2020 at 8 PM.
Currently, Uganda has 248 coronavirus cases.
