The Ministry of Health -MOH together with the World Health Organization-WHO have mobilized resources to kick out Cholera in the Moroto district after it confirmed over 100 cases in less than a week.

On Friday last week, the WHO sent an assortment of items comprising of beds, drugs, and water purification tablets among others in an effort to combat the spread of the water-borne disease.

In the same light, the Health Ministry also delivered up to 8 vehicles to assist with disease surveillance, sensitization, and case management in communities.

Loputuk Health Centre III has already set up an isolation center within to handle cholera patients as they continue to admit daily.

The health center in-charge Phillip Lotee, says out of the 102 patients admitted,67 were discharged while 33 are still hospitalized.

Also, 3 patients passed on last week.

Locals have now urged the district authorities to do something about the quality of water being used.

They argue that no access to clean and safe water facilities has escalated the problem as most villages within rely on stream water for their survival.

Lotee says over 2000 people are at risk and unless the issue of decent water supply to communities is handled, the fight against cholera could take a little longer.

However, despite the water challenge, the Health Ministry has started mass sensitization campaigns encouraging locals to improve on sanitation.

Health officials have also embarked on the distribution of aqua tablets to all households in the 14 affected villages.
