Ministry of health last night confirmed 28 new cases, taking toll to 281.

21 of those new cases were confirmed as Ugandans drivers who came through the border of Elegu.

7 of the new cases are contacts to the previous confirmed truck drivers who were on quarantine according to the ministry of health.

The ministry also announced 7 positive foreign truck driver cases who  were handed over to their country of origin

They are 4 Tanzanians, 1 Eritrean, 1 Congolese and 1 Burundian.

Health officials also confirmed 69 total recoveries.

However, Ugandans are concerned about the high numbers registers from last night’s new cases from South Sudan.

The country eased lock down measures weeks ago but the new cases have risen to 994.

Here below are the concerns of Ugandans who took to social media to send a precautionary message to the minister of health Dr. Ruth Jane Aceng.

@CKyobutungi
Just close the Elegu border for a week or 2, until you figure out how negative truck drivers get infected in a matter of days inside South Sudan. It’s irresponsible to just wait for positive cases at the border as if nothing can be done to prevent infection.

@PtrMkasa
South Sudan has today shot up to 994 cases. So one can only imagine what is happening over there. Our drivers enter there clean, stay for 3 days and return with the virus. SAD

@jackie_oloya
The figures we got from Elegu today alone is higher than this. Let’s be honest and accurate with the numbers

@jakanyijuka
With this trend from Elegu, one can only imagine what is happening in South Sudan.

@nakhasanga
Thanks for the updates. But up to when are we going to add south Sudan figures . As a country , we need to revisit the decision of taking over cases from southsudan

@ivankusiimakwe
Sometimes, I fall short of saying that truck drivers should dievin hordes in order to have some sense in their heads. We all saw how they gathered in numbers, even unmasked, to protest covid19 testing at Elegu and how others at Busia n Malaba were protesting being delayed.

@KekeJedidiah
Please MoH, do something about South Sudan boarder. Now that The other boarders are okay.

@dick_kaga
You people in the ministry of health should devise ways of reducing the numbers of covid especially those from south Sudan otherwise your efforts will be in vain.

@LuswataAlex
Ugandan truck drivers are crossing into South Sudan via Elegu negative and returning in under 48hrs positive with the virus. In just one day(Tuesday), 22 Ugandan truck drivers at Elegu confirmed positive. Something just isn’t right in South Sudan! Clearly enter at your own risk!

@robbob_baguma
We should take advantage of limited resources in south sudan and offer them testing facilities. We set up a lab at elegu and facilitate testing for sample from their nationals in return they pay us. In nutshell we become their UVRI. Crisis comes with opportunities.

@Mozeserugo
Are you including south Sudanese on Ugandan tally
