Four Sudanese soldiers trying to enter Uganda through the Moyo district have been shot dead by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF).

UPDF Spokesman Brig Richard Karemire says the 4 dead Sudanese People Liberation Army soldiers-SPLA clashed with the UPDF after acting defiantly and illegally crossing into Uganda.

Brig Karemire says the defiant soldiers were part of a bigger group all armed but casually dressed except for 1 in an army uniform.

Karemire further explains that the group blatantly moved 1.5 Kms into Ugandan soil before being seen by UPDF officers at Goboro.

The armed Sudanese soldiers were asked to stop but declined to heed prompting UPDF soldiers at the border to open fire killing 04 instantly while others fled back to their country.

Karemire says three bodies have already been sent to South Sudan authorities while 5 guns recovered at the scene have been taken to the UPDF commander in Yumbe.

This comes after 10 Ugandan nationals were over the weekend detained for illegally crossing the Nimule border into South Sudan.

In March, South Sudan closed Juba International Airport and all border entry points to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
