Fire brigade police have swiftly stopped a fire that broke out at the royal Kasubi tombs in Kampala destroying priceless buildings and property.

The Kasubi Tombs are the Buganda Cultural Heritage site, the burial grounds for four Kabakas (kings of Buganda), and other members of the Baganda royal family.

Kasubi tombs are found at the top of Kasubi Hill in Kampala.

A social media video, that has gone viral on Friday afternoon shows the police Fire brigade trying to put out a fire at one of the structures.

However, police say it was a minor fire in one of the huts, which was quickly extinguished police officers from the Directorate of Fire and Rescue Services.

Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police mouthpiece says the fire broke out at around 1 pm in one of the structures that were meters away from the main tomb.

He says Police were informed and four fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to professionally handle the incident.

Onyango adds that the fire crew reached and extinguished the fire.

He explains that the extent of the damage is yet to be computed although the cause of the fire outbreak is not yet established. Investigations have commenced on what caused the fire outbreak.

Onyango has called for calm among members of the public as police commences investigatations the incident.
