Only 30 people will attend Heroe’s day scientific celebrations at the State House Entebbe on Tuesday 9th June 2020.

The celebrations presided over by President Museveni are currently underway awaiting the President’s arrival.

This year’s 31st Heroes day is under the theme; “Celebrating a memorable day as we reflect on the selflessness of the heroes who put Nation above all else”.

The minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo has advised the public to celebrate this hero’s day from the comfort of their homes as one way of mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

On Heroes Day the president in usually a crowded event honors and awards countrymen and women for their selfless contribution towards the liberation.

It comes at a time when Uganda is mourning the death of another hero the Rtd. Major General Kasirye Ggwanga who has passed at the age of 68.

Family sources that have confirmed his demise on Tuesday morning say he was receiving treatment at Nakasero hospital where he breathed his last.

He joined the Uganda Army in 1972 and was posted to Arua in West Nile as a map reader following his initial training.

In 1985, Kasirye joined the National Resistance Army, under the leadership of President, Yoweri Museveni into power.

He served in different roles between 1986 and 2005 including as Mubende District LC 5 chairperson.

He retired from the army in January 2005 at the rank of brigadier but asked to be reinstated three months after. He was promoted to Major General in 2018 before he went on to retire for the second time.
