The Ministry of Health has confirmed another 8 new COVID -19 cases on Wednesday bringing the tally to 665 patients in Uganda.

This is out of  2423 samples tested on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Of these 1,388 samples were tested from the border points while  1,035 were of alerts and contacts.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General Services at the Healthy Ministry says 4 positive cases were from truck drivers and another 4 infections came from the community mainly and contacts from 3 districts.

3 positive truck drivers were identified at the Elegu point of entry and 1 from Mutukula.

Meanwhile, the community contacts are from the districts of Kyotera-2, Kayunga 1, and Amuru 1.

Also, 31 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 were sent back to their countries of origin.

Uganda has 119 recoveries and 0 deaths.

Speaking on Tuesday at the statehouse to celebrate hero’s day scientifically the president said there is likely to be a new wave of community infections that he attributed to indiscipline and recklessness on the part of Ugandans.

Museveni warned that Ugandans have become relaxed in adhering to the ministry of health directives that include washing hands and sanitizing, wearing face masks, keeping a distance, clean surfaces, and not touch the soft body parts of the nose, eyes, and mouth.

The president indicated that the government is in the process of scaling up the capacity to handle COVID-19 by setting up a 40.000-bed capacity that is expected to be stationed at Namboole incase community cases rise.
