Police in Kampala Metropolitan is investigating a case of suicide involving a 9-year-old boy that happened in the Mukono Municipality.
Derrick Wadero, a resident of Nantabulirwa village, Goma Division, was found dead inside his house hanging on a bed with a shoelace rope on his neck.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the police spokesperson says at the time of the act , the mother was at home washing clothes from the outside.
Owoyesigyire says the deceased’s uncle found the lifeless body the child hanging on a bed when he entered the house and immediately sounded an alarm.
The noise from the house attracted the attention of both the mother and neighbors who rushed to the house.
In a panic, the mother rushed to untie Wadero before running with him to the nearby clinic where he was pronounced upon arrival.
Owoyesigyire says preliminary reports indicate that the child died after tying a shoelace around his neck.
Police have since recorded statements from witnesses and relatives.
Wadero’s father identified as Ndenga who is a builder is currently in Masaka working at a construction site.
Police say his body was taken to city mortuary for post-mortem.
