Police in Nakulabye , Kampala has gunned down an armed man suspected to be a gangster terrorizing locals and robbing them.
The thug, Abraham Otim was fired live bullets to his death by a team of joint security agencies at Nakulabye Zone 8 in Rubaga Division.
Police say Otim was netted while attempting to steal at about 3 am on Friday but was defiant to admit defeat prompting police to fire live bullets at him.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire says the incident happened after police at Old Kampala Post got a tipoff from locals who reported an armed robbery happening at Nakulabye Zone 8.
He says when foot patrol police and Local Defence Unit personnel.-LDU’s arrived at the scene, Otim reportedly refused to hand over his weapon despite calls to have him surrender.
Investigations so far indicate that prior to his death, Otim was a guard at Capital Forex Bureau in Nakulabye attached to the SWAT security company.
Owoyesigyire says that by the time he was nabbed , Otim had already stolen from one house and beaten up another victim he had forced to open a shop.
The joint security team picked among other exhibits a bag containing items that had been robbed,a semi-automated Rifle – SAR with four live bullets.
Otim’s body has been taken to city mortuary for postmortem.
