The controversy surrounding the mishap in COVID -19 tests at Makerere University Hospital has prompted the Ministry of Health-MOH to institute an investigation.

Lab technicians at the Hospital on Wednesday declared negative results as positive as the MOH declared an addition of  697 COVID-19 cases in Uganda.

Makerere University Hospital is among seven laboratories approved by the ministry to carry out  COVID-19 testing in the country.

They have been using the RDT method which has not been approved by World Health Organisation-WHO.

During the budget address, President Museveni asked the health ministry to shade more light on the matter.

Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary at the health ministry says that they are investigating to find out what could have gone wrong.

“Our technical team is checking to see where the error was, whether it was in the decoding of the results of the testing.” Dr. Atwine said.
