Political actors in the opposition have highly disagreed with the revised roadmap for the 2021 general elections.

On Tuesday afternoon the electoral Commission released a new roadmap paving way for digital campaigns that involve radio, TVs, and social media among other platforms.

In this fresh roadmap, the EC has banned all political rallies and physical meetings between candidates and supporters.

Under the revised roadmap, campaigns start in September 2020 and proceed till January 2021.

Justice Simon Byabakama the EC chairperson while releasing the road map yesterday said the polling period for all aspirants including local government, parliamentary and presidential will happen between 10th January and 10th February 2021.

However, Presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has ridiculed the scientific road map as unfair to all candidates.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Bobi wine said the roadmap violates all aspects of a free and fair election under article 1(14)of the constitution of Uganda.

He faults the electoral commission for not involving stakeholders at all levels in the revision process

In the same spirit, the Justice Forum-JEEMA has branded the revised E C roadmap as unconstitutional.

Asuman Basaalirwa, the Justice Forum President indicates that the constitution does not provide for a digital method of campaigns or elections.

Basaalirwa says he has requested the chairman to the legal parliamentary committee to summon the Electoral Commission to parliament to explain how the entire process is going to play out without making reforms to the electoral laws.

Towing the same line, the president of the Forum for Democratic Change Patrick Amuriat Oboi says this roadmap does not work in favor of the opposition but the ruling government.

He adds that the opposition actors were never consulted over this revision and electronic methods of campaigns are a sheer characteristic of an unfair process. media is flooded by

Amuriat says over 90percent of radios and televisions in Uganda belong to NRM sympathizers.

Defending the EC, Spokesperson Jotham Tarebwa says the EC has not breached any law and is acting under the constitution.

He says Article 61(2) of the 1995 Constitution gives them the mandate to organize an election in a manner they deem feet and they have done this following government requirement for social distancing.
