It was all horror in Sironko district on Sunday night after a Local Defense Unit officer-LDU opened fire on himself under unclear circumstances.
Mutai Marcos attached to the 3rd division, aged 24 years is busy nursing a deep wound he sustained to the stomach after he reportedly shot himself using his own weapon at his base in Sironko High School.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and says Marcos was rushed to Mbale Regional referral hospital for treatment.
Taitika says investigations are currently ongoing to establish the exact cause of this incident.
