It seems that announcing new deaths of COVID-19 in Uganda is slowly becoming the order of the day for the Ministry of Health.

On Monday, the health ministry has confirmed another death bringing the total tally of COVID-19 deaths in Uganda now to 5 persons.

The latest case is a 46-year-old female of Indian origin and resident of Kibuli in Kampala.

She presented with signs of COVID-19 on Saturday, August 1st, 2020, and was rushed to Kibuli Muslim Hospital but the team at Kibuli instead referred her to Mulago Referral Hospital, however, she died on the way there.

According to Dr. Mwebasa the general director of health services at the MOH, the deceased is said to have had a history of diabetes and asthma which she suffered for 10 years.

He adds that the deceased was not on medication at the time of his death. Before the confirmation, her samples passed through 3 different laboratories.

The Ministry is currently tracing her contacts.

Also,13 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed from samples tested on 02nd August 2020.

Of these,4 are truck drivers,5 contacts to previously confirmed cases, 2 are returnees, while two 2 others are alerts from Buikwe and Kampala Metropolitan Area, mentioned above and succumbed to the disease.

The Ministry of Health has continued to appeal to the general public to call the toll free line on 0800-100-066 or 0800-203-033 to report any suspected person with signs and symptoms similar to COVID-19.
