Police in Masaka have thrown into their custody a Police constable for losing his AK47 gun with 30 rounds of live ammunition to unknown thugs while on duty.

Moses Bitalabeho was reportedly drunk was hijacked and badly beaten by the 2 thugs while guarding the UBC Mast in Bwala hill, Masaka city before they fled with his weapon.

A drunken Bitalabeho who failed to defend himself sustained deep cuts to his head and hands is currently nursing his serious injuries in hospital.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, says two women Harriet Akurut and Hope Akansasira, have been arrested to help police with investigations into the matter.

The two suspects are residents of Kimanya suburbs where Bitalabeho is said to have taken alcohol before he lost his firearm.

Masaka Resident District Commissioner, Herman Ssentongo says although Bitalabeho is hospitalized he is still under police custody for losing his AK 47 riffle to the wrong fellows and may face charges of neglecting duty once investigations end.

Meanwhile Panicking Residents have asked police and other security agencies in the region to join forces in recovering the missing gun, for fear it may be used by robbers to terrorize them.
