The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has summoned the Presidential aspirant Rtd. Gen Henry Tumukunde for allegedly holding stealthy meetings with veteran Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF officers.

The summon was issued by Grace Akullo in a letter dated August 18 addressed to Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde.

The letter partly states; “The directorate is investigating allegations to the effect that on a number of occasions at your office and residence both in Kololo and other locations within the country, you have held meetings with Army Veterans discussing issues related to politics,”.

According to the letter, they are probing allegations that the retired general has been secretly meeting veterans in contravention of sections of the 1995 constitution and the UPDF Act.

“Pursuant to section 27A of the Police Act as amended, you are summoned to appear at CID headquarters on the 19th August 2020.” Akullo states.

On Tuesday evening Police temporarily arrested Gen. Tumukunde after frustrating a meeting he was holding in Njeru town in Buikwe district while disregarding the required Standard Operating Procedures -SOPs.

However, Tumukunde has cautioned the government against disorganizing people who are using the democratic path to change the country’s leadership, he was speaking moments after his release from Njeru Police Station in Buikwe district
