The Uganda Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine has on Monday addressed allegations by Nakasekke South MP Paul Lutamaguzzi against the Uganda Prisons force.
Lutamaguzzi and 21 others were recently remanded to prison for violating COVID-19 guidelines and later released on bail.
Lutamaguzzi made statements on Sunday during a televised Political talkshow alleging that he was transferred to more than 10 prisons in one night, was badly beaten and tortured by police, and his money was stolen among others.
He also claimed that while at Kitalya prison, he witnessed incidents of death as a result of torture meted against inmates therein.
However, Baine has refuted the claims as baseless and untrue.
Baine says Lutamaguzi was only taken through isolation centers like Kasangati,Kauga , Sentema, Kitalya, and Lugazi among others.
He says the reason for such transfers is to avoid mixing new prisoners with old ones in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baine also clarified that all inmates in jail have passed through the right protocol and possess files indicating what crime they committed.
Baine challenged the legislator to come out and give evidence to his assertions.
