The Makindye magistrates court will on Wednesday rule on whether to grant bail to corrupt business fellow Dodoviko Mwanje over the demolition of the Anglican St Peter’s church in Ndeeba.
Dodoviko and 21 others were remanded to Kitalya prison in August.
The bail ruling happens at 2 pm at the Makindye magistrates court presided over by the Chief magistrate Prosy Katushabe.
The 21 suspects will also participate in court proceedings via video conferencing.
The prosecution heard that between March and August 2020, Dodoviko and Ivan Katongole a KCCA Urban planner connived with several senior police officers to demolish property belonging to the Church of Uganda.
The accused who denied all the counts were remanded until the hearing of their bail applications.
Prosecution states that on August 10, 2020, twelve people used an excavator to break and cause damage to St. Peter’s church Ndeeba; a property of the Church of Uganda.
The police officers are separately faced with 4 counts including disobedience of lawful orders of the commander of Kampala Metropolitan area Moses Kafeero; who had ordered them to deploy security at St. Peter’s church in Ndeeba in order to avert any demolition or destruction at the said church.
others include the Superintendent of police David Epedu, the Katwe police station DPC ASP Mugisha Yeko Kato, OC Ndeeba police SSP Rashid Agero and Martin Adero, who are police Field Force unit, commanders.
