FDC party will not be going to the polls today to elect their presidential flag bearer for the 2021 general polls slated for February 2021.
This is after one of the contenders Wassawa Birigwa has stepped down and officially endorsed his contender also Kizza Besigye strongman Patrick Amuriat Obboi the party’s President.
While addressing the delegates today at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, Birigwa who is also the party chairman revealed that he had a special gift for Amuriat before dropping the big announcement that he was endorsing Amuriat to stand for Presidency.
Birigwa said he has made the decision for the unity of the party, and its notion,” One Uganda One People”.
He went on to explain that he believes in the ideology of his party president for Uganda’s top seat and the fact that Amuriat will give president Museveni quite a battle.
“I am allowing Patrick Amuriat Oboi to carry on this. I have found him strong and he is going to give Mr Museveni a run for his money,” Biriggwa said
A highly emotional Amuriat broke down to tears seemingly shocked at Birigwa’s decision, he later sang praises to Birigwa describing him as an honest and reliable man, highly capable of being president.
Amuriat promised to declare Birigwa his Deputy president once elected into office come 2021.
“When Ambassador joined FDC, I didn’t believe in him. Even when he contested for the position of chairman, I didn’t trust him because I thought he would lead FDC to Museveni. I even decampaigned him, but I was completely wrong. I have come to know him as an honest and reliable man who is the real leader of the party,” Amuriat added.
