Police in Kitugum is investigating circumstances under which a ruthless mother reportedly dumped her 8 months old twin boys in a fast-flowing stream.
Lily Oyella, a mother of 6 and a resident of Bipong village in Oryang Parish in Labongo Amida Sub County angrily discarded her 2 babies 500 meters away from her home at about 6 pm over the weekend after her husband refused to buy food.
Wilfred Nyeko, the Labongo Amida Sub County LC 3 Chairperson says one of the children drowned in the stream while the other was rescued unconscious by locals.
Nyeko says it all started on Independence Day when the Oyella waited for her husband identified as Kenneth Ochol whom she had sent with an unspecified amount of money to buy food for the family for Independence Day celebrations but he never returned.
Ochol reportedly stormed the bar and celebrated his independence day there with all the money in a drinking spree instead while neglecting the hungry needs of his family.
Nyeko says the fuming Oyela couldn’t have it anymore and decided to foolishly drop the twins in the Auch stream to get back at her unthinking husband.
Oyella is currently locked up at Kitgum Central Police station pending investigations while her husband is on the run.
Meanwhile, the child who survived the incident is receiving treatment at Kitgum General Hospital while the deceased’s body is lying in the mortuary at the same hospital pending a postmortem.
Police have opened up a case of murder against the suspect while Ochol is being hunted for interrogation.
