The opposition Democratic Party -DP has finally submitted to the electoral commission-EC signatures ahead of the nomination for the presidency.
According to the Presidential Elections Act Section 10(b), a person qualifies to be a candidate after among others; having been supported by 100 registered voters from two-thirds of all districts of Uganda. This translates to 98 districts and 9,800 voters.
The DP party spokesperson Opio Okoler says they have acquired all the necessary signatures and more in case the ones presented are rejected.
Okoler adds that their candidate is also set to be nominated on Monday which is the day they have booked to nominate him as soon as the EC verifies the signatures.
All approved aspirants are issued certificates of compliance after verifying their supporters, the cleared aspirants are expected to present their certificates before the returning officers on Monday and Tuesday next week when nominations take place.
So far 10 presidential hopefuls have been cleared for nomination next week at the Kyambogo university grounds.
