The Uganda Police counter terrorism boss Abas Byakagaba has warned the National Unity Platform-NUP of dire action should they instigate chaos in Mbarara on Saturday during the manifesto Launch.
AIGP Byakagaba who doubles as the zonal police commander for Ankole and Kigezi region has asked the NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his supporters to maintain peace and order before and during the manifesto launch.
While addressing the media this morning, Byakagaba warned of harsh action should the NUP stir chaotic scenes in the town or act contrary to the Standard operating procedure that includes no processions, social distancing among others.
Bobi wine pushed the nomination date to the 7th November to allow time to mourn and bury the late Dr.Anas Karrisa a celebrated Muslim scholar and analyst who passed on Wednesday evening at his residence in Kawempe.
“The manifesto launch is scheduled to take place in Mbarara, Kakoba Division. We have accordingly notified the Electoral Commission and Uganda police,”.Bobi said
Bobi Wine will also use the same function to officially open NUP offices that will act as a branch for the district.
The offices to be located at Kakoba Division are an arms-length distance from Kiruhura, the ancestral home of National Resistance Party (NRM) candidate, and President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa.
