Mathew Kanyanmunyu has signed up new lawyers to represent him in the murder case after the previous ones ditched him and his girlfriend Cynthia Muwangari in court last week.
The lawyers including Caleb Alaka, Evans Ochieng, and Mc Dusman Kabega refused to show up in court under unclear circumstances abandon ding him midway the trial.
However, on Monday, when the case came up for a further trial, a team of new lawyers from Kampala Associated Advocates including Jet Tumwebaze and Peter Kabatsi was in court on the duo’s side.
Kanyamunyu has asked the court to grant him a two-day adjournment to enable him to conclude negotiations with his new lawyers of KAA led by Peter Kabatsi who say they received instructions on Friday evening last week and need time to peruse through the evidence before the court.
Kabatsi who is representing Munwangari said he has been able to speak to his client but noted that the record of proceedings is very huge that he needs more time to read carefully through it.
Meanwhile, High Court Judge Steven Mubiru has dismissed an application filed by businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu seeking to have his murder trial stopped over as he awaits the results from a cultural justice system involving Acholi cultural leaders, over the death of Kenneth Akena.
Kanyamunyu also wanted the court to halt the proceedings as he pursues chances of a plea-bargain where he can be convicted of a less offense which carries a lenient sentence.
Justice Mubiru said that such a traditional reason cannot lead to the postponement of a criminal trial.
