This year 2020 may not end on a bad note after all for a larger section of the business community after the government on Monday declared further easing of the lockdown.

In fact, many anticipate a complete opening of the economy by 2021

The minister for health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng announced the changes while addressing the media.

Among the changes include expanding the number of people holding mass gatherings to 200 people at a time; these include religious gatherings, political rallies, meetings, weddings.

The Government will also resume cinemas, gyms, massage parlors, and mobile markets, effective Saturday, November 14, 2020, but they would be restricted to operating between 6:30 am and 7:00 pm.

However, Casinos and gaming outlets will only be allowed to reopen once they meet requirements like the standard operating procedures SOPs.

Also to remain closed are bars and discotheques that the minister says pose a greater risk of increasing COVID-19 infections.

”considering the phase of the epidemic Uganda is in, with the rising cases and deaths in urban areas, suspension of bars and discotheques will continue” Aceng said

All the above institutions were closed by Government in March this year during a national lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Uganda’s Covid-19 infections stand at over 14,400 with 132 deaths and 7,771 recoveries.
